Where my fellas at?!? FELL-UHHHHHHHS! This is for you. Hallelu.

I have been requested to write about skincare for men specifically. Now that Valentine’s Day is over… Here is something for the men! This will be a simple and practical blog post about skincare guidelines for him. Bearded males included. Let’s get started, shall we?

DO: Ditch added sugars.

Okay so this applies to everybody, but I want to start with diet first since you’re gonna eat anyway (I don’t know any man that doesn’t love to eat and/or want a sandwich made for them).

Today, we’re talking about the “crack” of the Western Diet:

Added sugars.

Sugar is in almost everything, so we must read the label to be aware of what we’re putting into our bodies. Sure, indulge in that leftover Valentine’s day candy, but a soda or a mocha macchiato (or whatever coffee with loads of creamer creation is being ingested) every single day is not the best for your skin.

High-sugar diets lead to inflammation and that means breakouts and aging faster. Do the right thing, gentlemen. Check the grams of sugar in your foods and snacks. Ease up! Your skin will thank you.

DO: Be thirsty.

Hydration matters. Drinking water matters. Is it cliché? Absolutely. But hey, most cliché sayings are there because it’s true and it works. You know the drill. Drink your water, but how much? 🧐

Divide your weight in half. That number in ounces is the least amount of water you should drink in a day.

Ex. You weigh 200 pounds. That means you should drink 100 ounces of water each day, which rounds up to 3 liters of water per day.

Keep in mind that having a diet full of fruits and veggies contribute to your water intake as well. Bonus points, fellas.

DON’T: Smoke.

We all know the harmful affects of smoking. Other than contributing to cancer, who wants to look 50 at age 30? I’m being dramatic but fine lines can form from smoking and lead to premature aging. Plus, don’t you wan’t to keep looking good and be everyone’s MCM? Preserve that collagen production and skin circulation for as long as you can, sir.

DO: Sleep on yourself.

Shout out to all of the hardworking men out there getting it! We appreciate you. BUT, getting an adequate amount of sleep is important. Learn to prioritize work, but also rest.

That way, you can be the best version of yourself and deliver the best performance not only at work, but with the other things you love to do for leisure. Skin cells work hard during slumber to detox. Get your Z’s, and you will notice a significant difference in your appearance.

DON’T: Skip skincare.

Did you know that Pharrell is 45? He is clearly in his skincare bag. He finally let the cat out the bag on how he maintains his skin.

Some of you men don’t have a “routine” that us ladies have. That is fine and dandy until you start to notice that your skin is starting to look trash (yeah, I said it). I don’t want to overwhelm you, but here is a simple men’s skincare routine that I think any guy can follow and it won’t be a nuisance:

The Simplest Men’s Skincare Routine in All of the Land

#1 Cleanse -- Wash your skin. Do this twice a day, morning and night. I have an older post about why I don't use soap as much anymore. Give that a read.

#2 Moisturize -- Do this twice a day, but have two different moisturizers for morning and night. The morning one should have sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher) in it. The night one should have retinol in it to prevent wrinkles.

Yep. That’s it.

This skincare routine is only two steps. The main principles is cleansing the skin, moisturizing, sun protection, and aging prevention.

Although getting older is inevitable, you can improve the tone and clarity of your skin in the meantime and not get a jumpstart into looking like someone’s grandfather too early.

DON’T: Neglect the facial hair.

You don’t have to shave off your beard. (unless it’s patchy, the ladies don’t love patchy! 🤷🏾‍♀️) But if you do have yourself a mane to take care of, consider these tips below:

Whether you have a beard or not, the skin can be a bit sensitive, and ingrown hairs are a thing! Pesky as they are, there is a solution. Mixing a drop or two of 100% tea tree essential oil (check those labels) into your moisturizer and applying it on the affected area can do wonder on getting rid of bumps and soothing irritation. Tea tree oil is pretty accessible nowadays, so get yourself a bottle and thank me later.

Well guys, I am done. I told you this would be simple and straight to the point. I hope this is a helpful post to get your skin right for 2019 and beyond. To the ladies reading this, share this with your boyfriend, husband, daddy (and zaddy 😉) etcetera etcetera.

Until Next Time,

Evie xoxo
